United Sertoma has raised and distributed over $625,000 to local causes in Lemont and surrounding communities over the past seventeen years.
It is our continued goal to raise funds to assist as many as we can. Some of our charitable contributions include; Sertoma Speech & Hearing Center, Sertoma Career Centre, Tri-County Special Recreation, White Sox Miracle Field in Lemont (baseball field for children with disabilities), Lemont High School Scholarship Program, Lemont Safety Village, Autobahn 5K (benefiting CASA and MADD organizations), Holiday Food Basket Program, and many more.
In June 2008, White Sox Miracle Field opened at Centennial Park in Lemont, IL. Lemont SERTOMA donated to the project along with a grant from the Chicago White Sox and various other local businesses, organizations and individuals.
Children with all disabilities can enjoy this barrier free baseball field. It has a rubberized surface made from recycled concrete that protects all players from injuring themselves while playing.
Members of the Lemont Little League and the Tri-County Special Recreation Association can now enjoy the great All-American pastime of baseball.
The largest direct contribution was the donation of a handicap accessible bus for the Tri-County Special Recreation Association. The vehicle allows for fourteen people, including four people in wheelchairs, to be transported to and from leisure programs. This wheelchair accessible bus increases the SRA’s service to capability to people with physical and mental impairment. The Tri-County SRA provides leisure services to residents with disabilities from Lemont, Romeoville and Lockport. Lemont SERTOMA has also donated several thousand dollars to the SRA for purchasing sport uniforms, supplies and equipment needed for their programs.
